The Last Match

The Last Match is a short-form solo role-playing journaling game inspired by The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen. In this game, you may choose to roleplay as the title character from Andersen’s story, or create an entirely new persona to explore themes of loss and hope. Like the original tale, your character is trying to sell matches on a cold, bitter night. Too afraid to return home, they choose to brave the winter streets in the hopes of earning money for their family.

As the night wears on, your character turns to the matches for warmth and comfort. Each one struck offers a fleeting moment of solace, but also brings them closer to surrendering to the cold.

This game can be played at your own pace over multiple sessions, or experienced in a single sitting alongside David Lang’s The Little Match Girl Passion, for a total playtime of approximately 45 minutes.
